ARD Analytical Laboratory Tour Script —
ARD Analytical Laboratory Tour Script
Good morning, everyone.
My name is Rich, and I’m from the ARD team.
Our team is mainly responsible for analytical method development, method validation, and analytical support for our projects.
Today, I’ll briefly show you around our analytical laboratory and introduce some of the major instruments we use.
Please follow me.
Mass spectrometry area
First, this is our mass spectrometry area.
We have several types of mass spectrometers here, including SQ, TQ, and TOF systems.
Let me start with the SQ.
SQ stands for a single-quadrupole mass spectrometer.
We mainly use this instrument for simple molecular-weight measurement and confirmation.
It is useful when we want to quickly check the molecular weight of a sample.
We also have another SQ in the laboratory next door.
That SQ is connected to a two-dimensional liquid chromatography, or 2D-LC, system.
Simply put, 2D-LC uses two LC systems in sequence.
It allows us to perform an additional separation using a second LC dimension when necessary.
We can talk more about the details later if you’re interested.
Triple quadrupole LC-MS/MS system
Next, this is our triple-quadrupole LC-MS/MS system, or TQ.
We mainly use this instrument for highly sensitive quantitative analysis.
For example, we can use it to analyze nitrosamine impurities such as NDMA and other NDSRIs.
Because these impurities may need to be controlled at very low levels, LC-MS/MS is useful because of its high sensitivity and selectivity.
TOF mass spectrometer
And this is our TOF mass spectrometer.
TOF provides high-resolution, accurate-mass information.
We mainly use it for molecular-weight confirmation and impurity characterization.
For example, if we find an unknown impurity during development, TOF can help us obtain more detailed mass information.
Actually, this is probably one of the most expensive instruments in our lab.
So whenever I walk past it, I become a little more careful.
I’m just kidding … mostly.
Okay, let’s move on to the next area.
Please follow me.
HPLC area
This is our HPLC area.
As you can see, we have several HPLC and UPLC systems here.
These are some of the most frequently used instruments in our laboratory.
We use them for routine testing, analytical method development, and method validation.
For peptide products, HPLC is especially important for purity, assay, and related-substance analysis.
So our analysts spend quite a lot of time in this area.
GC and GC-MS systems
Over here, we have our GC and GC-MS systems.
We mainly use GC for residual-solvent analysis and the analysis of other volatile compounds.
GC-MS can also provide mass information, so it is useful when additional identification is required.
Particle size analyzer
Now, let’s move to the next instrument.
This is our PSA, or particle size analyzer.
We use this instrument to measure particle-size distribution when it is required for a product or process.
General analytical equipment
In this area, we also have analytical balances, Karl Fischer titrators, and pH meters.
We use the analytical balances to prepare samples and standards accurately.
The Karl Fischer system is used to determine water content.
And, of course, the pH meters are used for routine pH measurements.
These may look like relatively simple instruments compared with the mass spectrometers, but they are also very important for our daily analytical work.
ICP-MS room
Next, I’d like to show you our ICP-MS room.
Please come this way.
This is our ICP-MS.
We mainly use ICP-MS for elemental-impurity analysis.
It is capable of detecting metals at very low concentrations.
Depending on the sample, we may perform acid digestion or other sample preparation before the analysis.
Because contamination control is very important for trace-metal analysis, this area is separated from the general laboratory area.
Standard and sample management area
Now, let’s move on to our standard and sample management area.
This is our reference-standard storage area.
We carefully manage reference standards and analytical standards under appropriate storage conditions.
Analytical results are only as reliable as the standards we use, so proper management of reference standards is very important.
We also have designated storage areas for samples and reagents according to their required storage conditions.
Data and document management
Finally, let me briefly explain how we manage our analytical data and documents.
Most of our analytical activities and experimental records are managed through our electronic laboratory notebook, or ELN.
This allows us to maintain traceable records of our experiments and analytical results.
Controlled documents and other records are also managed in accordance with our internal quality procedures.
Closing
That brings us to the end of the lab tour.
I hope this tour has given you a good overview of our analytical capabilities and how our ARD team supports our projects.
Thank you for your time.
If you have any questions about the instruments or anything you have seen during the tour, I’d be happy to answer them.

Let’s move on to the next area.
The next instrument I’d like to show you is this one.
I’ll briefly explain how we use this instrument.
We mainly use this instrument for …
This is one of the instruments we use quite frequently.
The laboratory next door has another system.
We can take a look at that later if you’d like.
That’s the basic concept. The actual system is a little more complicated.
I’ll keep the explanation simple for now.
If you’d like, I can explain that in more detail after the tour.
That’s a good question. Let me briefly explain.
I’m not completely sure about that specific detail, so I’ll check it and get back to you.
My colleague may be able to give you a more detailed answer on that point.
For today, I’ll just give you a general overview.
Please watch your step here.
Please be careful around this area.
We can continue this way.
And this is the last area I’d like to show you.
Thank you. Let’s head back to the meeting room.
말할 때 기억할 포인트
Simply speaking보다Simply put이 더 자연스럽습니다.for the analysis of도 맞지만, 투어에서는use it to analyze가 더 짧고 말하기 편합니다.in accordance with our internal quality procedures는 문서·품질 체계 설명에서 자연스러운 공식 표현입니다.- 질문에 바로 답하기 어려울 때는 **“I’ll check it and get back to you.”**라고 말하면 충분히 전문적입니다.
